As boring a piece of Commercial Style as you'll find. This page gives the standard eulogy: " Built in 1927, it was considered the state’s finest hotel for years Elvis Presley, President John Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and President Richard Nixon were among those who stayed there." Yes. And they got the nice suite. Where else were they going to stay? Aunt Matilda's Boarding House?

Anyway:

In 1978, hotel owners say they needed a property tax reduction or they’d have to close the hotel. The tax break never came and the hotel was closed.

Closed and imploded. Video of the big kaboom at the link.
