Kraut King

His happy face belies the fact that Kraut King was deposed after just a few weeks in the paper. His appearance in 1948 shows the difference between the post WWI environment and the end of Naziism; whereas any reference to German monarchy would have spelled doom for a product in 1919, by 1948 Germany was securely under the republican banner of the Allies, and so a resurgent German monarchical mascot would not seem out of place.

Perhaps people didn't like the idea of finding eyes and a mouth in their cabbage; for whatever reason, Kraut King's reign was short.
