What sort of exciting show was this? A proto-Hawaii 5-0? Adventures of the synchronized strutting team? Wikipedia says they were magazine - make that free-lance magazine writers, no doubt with a taste for danger. Or pineapple. Or pineapple-scented danger.
The show ran for one season in 1961. Went up Sunday nights against Sullivan and Disney, the programming equivalent of tugging on Superman's cape and spitting into the wind. Femail stars included Jayne Mansfield, Rhonda Fleming, Julie London, Joanna Moore, Tuesday Weld, Inger Stevens, Stella Stevens, Yvonne DeCarlo, Dyan Cannon, and others. Mee-oww.
The guy in the blue box was the replacement striding detective, who could be used when the others were in trouble. Provided he took his coat off and slung it over his shoulder, free-lance style.
