Hey, that was fun! Two hours in the emergency room! Lotsa needles, too. You think you’re going in for something minor and the next thing you know you’re standing naked under an ugly robe looking at a rack of scalpels. I knew I was going to go in today; just a question of when. Dropped Gnat off at school, went to the ED (they don’t call it the emergency room; it’s the emergency department) and saw it was SRO; chances I’d make it out in two hours was nil, so I left, shoulders slumped. (Went back tonight. But that’s Tuesday’s column.) In between then and the poke-fest I took Gnat fishing. We went to Chuck E. Cheese Lake and managed to lose half the lures in the tacklebox. (But that’s the Sunday column.) Then I did the Hewitt show, and did so in a merry mood despite the knowledge that I was about to be stuck and carved – if all went well, that is.
So that’s my day, and that’s why I didn’t upgrade the Screedblog. Lesson learned: schedule ahead! You need two weeks advance warning if you want a doctor to
A
And let’s leave it at that. But once again I have to wonder what sort of idiot willingly does needle drugs.
Now we must step away for a while. I’m switching servers, rebuilding the site, and taking the next week off to finish the book proposal. Family’s leaving town for a while for a girl-side henfest elsewhere, so it’s me and the mutt for a week. I predict a great weekend and depthless depression by Tuesday. Be glad I'm not posting. I'd write things you wouldn't normally encounter without the Mrs. Butterworth label.
I leave you with an extra-long Diner that is not as stupid as the others. It will be the last that sounds this crappy, since I’m going to buy a cheap mixing board and do it all in Garageband from now on. It's about 38MB in size, 41 minutes long, and concerns Sam Spade, the humiliation of a great dancer, and a little bit more sophisticated background sounds. But not by much.
Ouch: something’s wearing off. Well, they warned me.
Anyway: it all returns Monday, August 8. Thanks for your patience and patronage, and see you then.
