A reminder: posting will be, ah, different until the next book is done. There will still be M-F additions, so stop by. And buy the book! Great Christmas gifts, etc. And the Backfence is still open for business, Tue / thu / Sun.
Today, another remnant of the era of Happy Domestic War Pep-Talks from the yet-unposted archives of Patriotica. Man, look at that plate: meatballs, three scoops of spuds, two pieces of bread with a quarter-stick of butter, peas, three franks denuded of their skin, and a rasher of bacon. Perfect for wartime grub or those “low-point Summer meals.” Yes, tubular meat hoses are approved by the “Office of War Information” (again, imagine the cries of horror that would be raised today if someone proposed an agency with such a blunt and martial name) because it doesn’t waste the things we need to whip Hitler and the minions of Tojo.
No waste of food! No waste of time or fuel! No waste of money! Buy bonds!
