Color! I used the photograph first, because somehow that makes it more real. Postcards lie now and then.
It was the only park downtown. Mindful of the possible Bum Problem, it didn’t have benches along the walks, and I suspect anyone in a shabby state who flopped on the grass might have gotten the move-along from the police.
Sedate and genteel, isn't it? Colorization has that effect. By the time this picture was taken, though, the white building in the background - the Nicollet Hotel - was showing its age, and the area still looked old. The pavilion looked like it was expecting everyone else to spiff up, or get out of the way for the future. Which looked a lot like the past, but nevermind.
