The sign’s modern appeal is diminished somewhat by the carriage lamps, but that sort of anachronism was common. What was the deal in the 60s with those carriage lamps, anyway?
And what’s the deal with “Buff”? I tcatered to well-tanned nudists? Short for Buffalo, it seems – although by an odd twist of fate the motel was purchased and renamed in 1956 by a couple named “Boeve,” which could well be pronounced Buff. Happy coincidence, no doubt.
The sign was put up in 1968, according to the motel's own history website, once upon a time. No more. |
