Cudahay Sam
Sam touted the virtues of Cudahy industrially-processed flesh before the Pig replaced him. He was a circus sideshow act who could do things with his tongue, such as clean the inside of his nostrils and tie a knot in his neckwear, and the advertising agency believed that a man with a protruding tongue would make people think "I can't wait to salivate and then conspicuously wipe my lips with my own pink, thick, oral muscle."
The campaign was not a success.
Later the agency tried again, with Sam's father, another sideshow legend, thinking he might add some wisdom and gravitas.
