Before we plunge into Jell-O as we understand it, this spread informs us there was once "Ice Cream Powder" under the Jell-O name. It may have failed, since farm families were well aware that the Cherry Ice was indistinguishable from brains, and the Peach Ice Cream bore a remarkable resemblance to the intestines of a small animals.
Modern refrigeration was not always available, so there must have been days when it was a race to get the last bit of cooling power out of the ice to solidify this stuff. The ice went one way while the Jell-O went the other.
