A few notes. The hat seems an odd touch. We're supposed to think it flew off in surprise, but this isn't that type of comic.

Office cats? I guess. Maybe that's his office wife, and the son he had by her. Note also the Mr. Dithers type; the Boss archetype was already firmly enconsed in the culture.
