The man of bronze. The paperback covers of my era made you think he was some kind of super hero, but he wasn't. He also wasn't a medical doctor, and he wasn't savage. Wikipedia told me something I never knew:

Doc Savage is a fictional character of the competent man hero type, who first appeared in American pulp magazines during the 1930s and 1940s. 

Apparently it's a Heinleim term some Wikipedia editor is trying to make more common, or trying to pretend it's more common than it is.
