Surrealism began to infect or edify - depending on your perspective - the world of commercial art in the late 30s, and this ad is a fine example. Except you can't really tell what it's about, or what it's advertising. OPEN THE DOOB? What does that mean?

It's an ad for floor lamps, sold by NSP. (Northern States Power, as us Minnesotans remember it.) They ran a wide series of ads with this theme, and "NSP" was buried in the copy of each.
