The left side of the card looks like a classic downtown neighborhood about to go south to skid-row status. Old buildings with big marquees. Loans! Army store. Ancient hotel. The sign atop the Wyoming Hotel: Stetson Hats.
See the sign for the Crown Hotel? The corner of the block now has a Crown Bar. The building is still a hotel - or at least has a sign that says it's the Idelman Hotel. According to this page, it was built in 1882 by two Polish immigrants, Max and Abe Idelman. The building to its right si the Commercial Building, and to the right - the red brick building - it's an old bank building. The broad white structure went down in an arson fire in 2004. |
