A rather wild example of the googie coffee-house aesthetic. Thinking Scandanavian meeting hall? No. From a 1957 newspaper:
POLYNESIAN MOTIF will dominate in integrated group of restaurant and stores to be built by Dr. Charles B. Canby Jr. on southeast corner of Van Nuys Blvd. and Kittridge St. Coffee Dan's, Pacific Finance, Motherhood Shops, Dr. Pridham Davis and other lessors will occupy new business block.
If you squint at the end you can read "Outrigger Room," which was probably the place where you could get depressants instead of stimulants.
