The term "package" is regional, and perhaps archaic. It meant you could buy liquor and take it away. In a package. The word by itself might have been confusing to some, but add "BAR" and the message was clear.
Steaks, seafood, hamburgers, coffee, pie, scotch, and a pint for the road. Could it get any better? Of course.
