Northwest had a booth under the stairs? I never knew.

The space below Kinney's would eventually become an Apple store, one of the earliest. The Kinney space would be hollowed out and turned into a hallway leading outside; the steps themselves woulds be removed.

Renovations were constant, it seemed, but I think there were only a few big overhauls. I can't tell you when the stairs went away. But I remember them.
