Another old view of the neighborhood. The reddish structure down the street is the West Hotel; in between, the tiny Unique Theater - something which will have a rhyme no one hears a hundred years later. But we'll get to that.

The left part of the card has the colorful awiings of Block E, with a billboard that’s mystified me for years: THE IOLD IS KING.

Then I found a 1905 picture of the Temple, and lo and behold!

I'm still mystified. They don't match up. Unless the White Sewing Machine company used to be called the IOLD, which it wasn't.
