| I stayed here as a kid, but I don't remember it. When we came to the Fair, my dad said we stayed downtown, and this must have been the place - it was a clean, cheap, family hotel with a motor lodge for those desiring suburban comforts. Over 700 rooms, it straddled an entire block, but it never really looked like this picture above. It looked like an old mess, and did from the day it was built.
But it was a landmark, one of the two hotels that anchored the end of downtown by the convention center. It lacked the political prestige of its neighbor, the Leamington, but it was well-regarded, and never tipped over into fleabag status |
