You can tell the age of the buildings by the narrow windows - before structural steel, the walls held all the weight, and the thicker they were, the more narrow the window. It was also the style - form follows engineering principles, not just function - but after buildings started sporting broad open panes on every floor, these buildings looked old and tired.
