1. The elevators must have been cool. The crescent-shaped arangement wasn't unique - you can find it at the Grain Exchange as well, but it's still a graceful style.

2. Almost every office had a window. They had to have a window, or people would expire from the heat. Or the cold. You have your choice in Minnesota, you know.
