Yes sir! Yes, sir that’s a fine sign. It almost seems too grand for the place, especially if the Indian’s headdress was animated. (As it surely was.)
The Samantha boasted “Every Modern Convenience,” which of course is preposterous. Univac computers in every room! No. But it did have a pool and a HoJo restaurant next door, and a long tall pole that lined up perfectly with the sign’s support post at a certain hour of the day. Folks from all over would drive to see it align, just so. That was the sign it was time to have a refreshing beverage of a spirituous nature, perhaps. Men would stagger home at sunset, and their wives would ask “Have you been pole-syncin’ down at the Samantha agin?” they’d nod yes, sheepishly. |
