I'm not exactly sure what this guy's job is, but it seems to be taking a heavy toll on his well-being. On the surface, he would seem to be a blacksmith, but there's the omnipresent gear, what appears to be the end of a mortar shell, and the curious long metal dingus in his right hand. At least he got out of the factory; that's good. Bad: he's blacksmithing in bare feet.
GATX is the General American Transportation Corporation; the "X" comes from a Federal law that requires the X be appended to the name of any company that owns railcars but is not, in fact, a railway. Ohhhhkay. They lease railcars, egines, and ships: they own the American Steamship Company, which has a delightfully archaic name they'll probably change to Amsteco someday.
