The Dorset was built in 1927 @ 30 W 54th St. It was an apartment hotel, which was - well, both. The bar had a certain cachet, for reasons I don’t recall - perhaps just the simple elegance of the place, the good location, a simple snug ambiance. I went to NYC in 1983 to meet an agent, and give her a manuscript called “A Studebaker in Purgatory.” I wince at the memory of it. She was very gracious and kind, and later wrote the sweetest rejection letter.
The hotel was torn down in 2000.
