Oh, brother: the Pledge. Everyone had a pledge back then. This one seems a bit stuffy and convoluted for ice cream, but they weren't kidding: Schwen's was not only a local favorite in Blue Earth Minnesota, but the owner of the company, Walter Schwen, invented a method of covering ice cream with liquified chocolate.
He sold the process to a company that turned it into the Eskimo Pie. Or so it's said.
