Ah, the Kloeppels, noted for their enormous stone heads floating from the side of the building. The Flagler Head fell down in '48, killed nine people.
Robert Kloeppel was an immigrant; arrived in the US in 1905, penniless, with a limited command of English. Worked his way through law school while working various hard jobs. Opened an office in the Flagler building. Bound the Flagler building. The rest is chain history. (Source.)
