The profile on the back looks like a big modern structure, but it looked nothing like this at all.
Perhaps the book used a generic illustration that made smaller operations feel like part of a chain. Yes, we belong to the Convenient Hotel chain.
They knocked it down for a motel, which wasn't the typical fate for these smaller places; either they burned down and took a whole block with them, or they were demolished for urban renewal. In other words, a parking lot. In both cases a landmark was gone, and the downtown suffered. Best case: old folks home. Which is even more depressing, really.
