The town was booming, thanks to that open pit. Nowadays promotional materials might shy away from such things, but in those times this was a sign of pride and prosperity. Hibbing needed a hotel commensurate with its status in the world, adn the Androy was built in 1921.

The name came from its owners: Andrew and Roy.
