Hotel Spalding, 520 West Superior Street, Duluth. Demolished for the new Public Library.

There were, it seems, two great hotels in downtown Duluth: the Hotel Duluth, which once had a bear wander though the lobby. It still survives, although I believe it's a senior residence now. No such luck for the Spalding, shown here in matchbook form. Why it had such a curious, eroded logo I don't know.
