In 1995, the LA times said this about the city-owned hotel: "Drug dealing and drug use are only some of the problems facing the Hayward Manor, according to police and the current manager, a court-appointed receivership representative. There's also prostitution, murder, sexual assault, robbery and other crimes."
Lovely. It was later renovated, and now it's an apartment building.
The tower on the right was finished in 1926. I don't know if that's the year the original wing got one measily extra story for some reason.
