A relic of the chain’s early days, but not too early. Springfield was the first Sheraton, in 1937; Boston was the 100th, in 1965. Possibly this hails from an earlier day, when it had another Boston hotel. I don't know. I'm sure there's a definitive answer to be had, but I can't imagine spending any time attempting to find it.
