A series of pictures detailing men in various states of automotive ecstacy appeared in the middle of the 20th century. The artists varied, as did the quantity of joy on the face of the men. If we incorporate what we have learned from advertisements in the back of periodicals, the bestowal of enlightment was often accompanied by the spinning of the knotted fabric around the man's neck.
