THE IMMACULATE HAM

The Red Room has been ritually cleansed and purified for the ceremony, and the sacrificial object placed into the chamber for veneration. The exact nature of the ceremony is not certain - texts of the era regularly equate the Ham with spring, suggesting fecundity rituals, but this scene depicts a time beyond the equinox. One school of thought believes that the ham is being prepared to assuage the strange, misshapen green beast that presses against the chamber, demanding worship. But the woman does not seem particularly concerned.

Note: we lack records of the exact dimensions of such rooms and their contents, but experts on the "cold boxes" such rooms have suggest that the woman is approximately eight feet tall.
