Unsung novels of the early 70s

It's been 28 years since this show hit the airwaves, and I can still whistle the theme song. The "Probe" agents were outfitted with miniature gizmos that kept them in contact with Burgess Merideth - who was sitting in an underlit room modelled after the bridge of the Enterprise. God, I loved it. There were also two other heroes - Tony Franciosa, who was cynical and charming, and Doug McClure, who was comic relief. (Troy McClure was based in part on Doug McClure's later omnipresence in infomercials.) You have to love that OCR font, which of course appeared on all the computer screens.
