Nothing gets those coveted younger fans in the seats like a Pepto-Bismol Larry Welk medley, and the '79 show obliged. Jill Cosgrove is still in the ice biz, as a choreographer. The Beattys were killed in a tragic accident.
Well, no, but I did see on Ice Capade-type show, once. Went with my parents. There was an elegant couple who skated with poise and sophistication. During their duet a light fell from the scaffold onto the ice; they didn't seem to realize it had happened, and the entire auditorium tensed in horror as the man skated backwards towards it. He fell. Cries of dismay. I'm not sure how it was accomplished, but within seconds it was revealed this was part of the act, and they were really a comic-relief team. Everyone was relieved! No one felt tricked or manipulated, even though that's exactly what they'd done.
