The bas relief of the GAR emblem is weathered, but still legible.

The notion that the emblem might someday seem unfamiliar - to say nothing of the dates - would have horrified the men who build this monument, but I fear that's come to pass.

I don't know why, but it seems peculiar to consider that most of the trees in the park are younger than the statue. The number of trees hasn't changed, just their location.
