The Graver in 1975. Late June, I think. (Kidding.) Through the radioactive fallout you can see the faux-Tudor malignancy grafted on the Graver in the late 60s, as well as the old sign.
Here the Graver doubled up on slogans; they retired "You Will Like the Graver," which sounded rather threatening, and used "in the heart of downtown Fargo" and "the Sign of Hospitality." They did not explain what the sign was, however, so you didn't know quite what to look for. A lamp? Perhaps; in the 70s the Graver had a bar called "The Lamplighter," with live music and mixed drinks.
Not a lot changed. The Black Building still looms; the Gate City has a new crown on the service core. The building between the Graver and the old Merchants Nat'l Bank was demolished for the usual reasons. |
