Hey there hi there HO there. I have enjoyed a true honest break from the web – no posts, no site maintenance, no updates, no Twitter, just the occasional furtive peak at the news (pirates? Seriously, pirates?) while waiting for the family here and there. It was lovely. I took fewer notes than usual, for a couple of reasons – one, I was just pasted flat at the end of the day, and two, I spent a couple of nights on the veranda writing the novel, which was heaven.

But I did manage to pen two substantial accounts of the vacation, the first of which will follow around 11 or so. Here’s a hint:

See you soon. In the meantime, though, there’s something up over at buzz.mn, if you wish.

Animal Kingdom Villas? Sounds like a nice place from what I’ve heard.

  2. mike hollihan says:

    You bought Natalie a giraffe?

  3. Joan H. says:

I’m guessing Phoenix Zoo. It’s terrific.

  4. GardenStater says:

You went on safari? If so, I hope you wore one of those cool safari jackets, and a broad-brimmed hat, and sunglasses. With your elephant gun slung casually over your shoulder.

Oh, and with native bearers, who called you “Bwana.”

  5. May I correct the punctuation in the headline:

“HIATUS OVER BLEAT RETURNS” [DELE COMMA]

I kid. I kid because I love. It’s wonderful to have you back. I’ve had trouble starting each day without you and it’s downhill from there.

The picture is actually one I sent you of my backyard. You’re still keeping the location a great secret and this is a mere red herring. Applying lessons from the novel, aren’t we?

  6. Well, either you stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge or you took the safari at Animal Kingdom… You Vacation Club member, you! I’m jealous.

  7. MikeH says:

San Diego Wild Animal Park (if it still exists) or South Africa (if it’s safe)

It took you a week to get a cat? How does Jasper feel about this?

    Giood to have you back.

    Bob

  9. Dick Hassing says:

Location: The lush tundra of Fridley, Minnesota.
    Giraffe: Stuffed
    Welcome back, by the way!

  10. swschrad says:

nice going, Ace, ya stick your neck out and it stays with you ;)

  11. Jeff says:

Welcome home! Glad you got some rest, but it feels decidedly odd to start the morning by clicking on the Bleat and get …nothing.

Isn’t a hiatus some sort of hernia?

  12. Joe the Painter says:

    Va–Ca—Tion? Would someone please explain…?

  13. Bill McNutt says:

Welcome back. I’ve been trying to finish a novel for years, and just can’t seem to write. So I’ve taken up blogging. I’m trying to hit around 1000 words a day on weekdays. You blog as buzz.mn, the bleat, and you have your dead tree projects. Do you have a guess as to your average daily wordcount?

    Bill

For I am a Pirate King!
And it is, it is a glorious thing
    To be a Pirate King!

  15. ech says:

Hey there hi there HO there.

Were you as welcome as can be?

  16. ech says:

Actually, the host was not at DisneyWorld, but at the secret convention of Lamarckians – plotting how they will defeat the Darwinist cabal and get back hte textbooks that so wrongly deride their theory. Or something like that.

  17. Lisa_N says:

Welcome back! Please gather all packages, take small children by the hand and watch your head and step.

  18. swschrad says:

not to rain on anybody’s parade, but “pirate” is not the hottest job description right now. they’ve added “firing range backstop” to the list of duties.

might I suggest weasel? same thing, inside work, fewer encounters with destroyer warships.

  19. GardenStater says:

Speaking of the pirates, I was delighted to learn that three of them are dead and one’s in captivity (and the ship’s captain was freed and unharmed). Here’s hoping pirate #4 “accidentally” falls overboard.

Maybe the Navy should revive the practice of keelhauling!

    Lion Country Safari?

    COME ON! It’s 11:06!!!

  22. Kimberly says:

As a fan of WDW myself, I LOVE your WDW trip reports. We’re going in May. I figure it’ll be 2x as good once I have an actual child to bring along.

  23. Jon says:

Happy to hear of a happy and productive vacation!

We go with my inlaws to WDW every seven years (’99, ’06, ’13, God willing). We were grateful for Fodor’s guide to the Animal Kingdom (ie, always get there at opening, always go first to the safari tour, otherwise the lions will be napping the rest of the day…), but your accounts and pictures really give a lot more feel of the place.

If you write a book on a Disney Veranda, do they have Intellectual property rights?
