Hugh T. Pangburn founded the company. He started with patent medicines, moved up to ice cream, then invented "Ragtime Chocolates," which was like "Radio Chocolate" or "Cyber Chocolate" - a current craze, applied to something unrelated.

In 1978 they recalled 11,000 cases because of "bacterial contamination." Most companies get past that; King Candy - which is what it was called now - just called it quits.
