Women wore a lot of clothing in the 30s, it seems. They had attributes long forgotten as well, "Swaggerish" being the one most sorely missed. Note the item on the left: it's autographed by Loretta Young! She actually wore it in Hollywood!
Whether this meant she owned it and walked up and down the street in the outfit, or the lawyers were satisfied if she said "yeah, I put it on. It itched" over the phone, I can't say.
Note the lettering - it's one of the reasons I've chosen these particular pages. The script, the numbers, the big decorative letters were all hand-made. The amount of work these catalogs required was enormous. |
