Dick was a big silent film actor, one of the highest paid actors of his time. (Something they seem to say about everyone, at some point.) He made 15 films in the 30s, but faded out for good by the early 40s, joined the Naval Reserve, served in WW2, then retired to live on his investments. He married a woman in 1928 and stayed married until he died in 1963.
